Mykola Tomenko: It is Necessary to interfere in the Organization of the University Admission Campaign
Mykola Tomenko, Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, appealed to the President of Ukraine with a request to interfere into the organization of the university admission campaign.
M. Tomenko informed that during the last two days he had met representatives of several Kyiv and regional higher educational who briefed on the critical situation with the novelties of the Ministry of Education and Science, Youth and Sports regarding university admission campaign 2011. Namely, most problems were caused by ‘the electronic admission´ to the higher educational establishments which was introduced under the Order of the Ministry of Education and Science, Youth and Sports No.291 of March 28, 2011.
Mykola Tomenko stated that this novelty may lead to acute conflicts. Thus, the Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada stressed that due to the technical, organizational or other circumstances, university admission commissions have no appropriate access to the information on school leavers registered via "Electronic Admission 2011." Moreover, the admission commissions of numerous universities of Kyiv and other regions shall enter the information about school leavers registered in the written form into the electronic register. Considering the fact that technical capacities of most universities leave much to be desired, and internal systems of school entry results has not been converted to the system of "Electronic Admission 2011", there is no technical capacity to enter most of the students registered in the written form into the database.
M. Tomenko stressed that if the situation does not change, higher educational establishments will be held hostage to the situation, when there are different lists of applicants, which will lead to chaos and unexpected results.
Discussing other problems of admission campaign 2011, Mykola Tomenko stated that the admission campaign has already started, while most higher educational establishments do not know the volume of the governmental order.
